I might need a new fridge

After an elective new washer, a fire hazard dryer, and a dead TV now our refrigerator is thinking about going into the light. Seriously? FOUR high price tag items in the last two months?

The washer was elective because our old one was trying to eat Travis’s work clothes. He had finally found some nice dress shirts that are very well made but kind of expensive. The washer was old and inefficient so we thought the best idea was to replace it and keep his shirts looking new. So we got an LG front loading washer.

About three weeks later the dryer started smelling and I was sure it was dead. It would stop drying after about ten minutes from what I assume was overheating. Travis looked at it and said it was lint caught up in the thing and it should be fine after he cleaned it. It seemed to help keep the drying from stopping but the smell still lingered. Then after one load fully dried, the next it stopped drying after ten minutes. Busted dryer. So we got a Samsung front loading dryer.

The TV has had its share of problems. We’ve had it since ’05 when he worked at best buy and got a discount. A Samsung Slim Fit CRT. It looked great, sounded AMAZING and went waving in ’06 right before Warren was born. The picture would look all warped like someone was holding a magnet to it. I never found out a definite reason for this happening but the repairman fixed it up and it worked again. Next in ’08 after Hagen was born it went wavy again so we had it fixed, again. Thankfully this was all under warranty. But now it no longer has a warranty so we’d be out a hundred just to have it looked at (from what I know). You could turn it on and it would take a few seconds to see a picture, then as soon as you did it was gone. We took it to best buy and had it recycled and just went ahead and bought a Samsung LCD to give back the borrowed TV.

Now the fridge keeps crapping out, but just enough to be annoying. My mom suggested to show the fridge a picture of the new one I would buy to make it keep putting along until we can stomach a new one. But the thing is, I have no idea what I would buy!! I’d love one just like my mom’s.. You’d know this by the lovely shade of green I turn when I mention it. She has a 29cu ft french door Samsung. Its huge! And if I get a new one, I’m going to need huge.

I mean, this was after a small trip. Sometimes I have to make two trips to the grocery store a week because it doesn’t all fit in the fridge. And we aren’t the type to live out of the pantry or freezer. We like our food fresh and do a lot of cooking. I can never get the organization right in this fridge, it always seems like I am shoving stuff on top of other stuff in there. We always come out with smashed pre-shredded cheese. See the PUR dispenser in there? It’s ’cause there isn’t one in the door. And, I’d love that, but do you know how much more it is when you compare?! It’s hard to know if you should keep to a reasonable budget for something like this, or splurge and make all your dreams come true. (Because you know all I dream about at night is luxury appliances and BMW SUVs. No really, I do.)

Then what brand do you go with? I’m not even sure what brand this fridge it but it has lasted the last 17 years since my parent’s bought it. Yes, it was a hand-me-down fridge. :) Oh, wait, I just found the label, it’s a Kenmore.

I really hate making these kinds of decisions because I know in the end I’m going to have to compromise on something I want because its just too darn expensive.

What kind of fridge do you have? And do you love it?

Oh yea, and see that ice maker? It loves to annoy me. It flings hollow ice across the freezer so anytime I get stuff out ice goes all over the floor.
