It’s a weird thing to explain but I feel like a mom now. I’ve kind of felt like a glorified babysitter for the last three and a half years. Pre-school just put me full force into the mommy feeling. Something about the lunch packing, him dressing himself, paying tuition, and waving bye at the door while he turned to go play did me in.

We have been telling him for two days he’s going to pre-school and asking him if he was excited. His response was always a nod of the head. Today I reminded him and his first words were, “I don’t have a backpack with me though!” I told him I was packing it and then he said, “Hey Hagen! I am going to pre-school today, but you can’t go with me.”

I couldn’t sleep last night and I wasn’t able to understand why. I didn’t feel nervous, or anxious, but apparently I was. I was up early and showered (ACCOMPLISHMENT!) and made the kiddos some breakfast. I started rushing because time was slipping away from me. I got everyone’s clothes brought to the living room then finished packing his first lunch. PB&J, carrots, strawberries and a cheese stick if you were wondering.

I asked him to please dress himself and went to fill a cup of water for his lunch, I turned around and he was fully dressed and told me he was going to get his shoes on. I told him to go up and get socks because he had to wear gym shoes to school… he came back with Cars socks to put on and by the time I came in the living room again he had shoes on and was trying to get his back pack on. I was flabbergasted.

We piled in the van and got to school early, I was in the middle of an inner argument on if I should use the drop off line or walk him in when Claire spit up so I decided to park and clean her up… and walk him in. Here’s what followed:

“What are you doing?”

“Parking.”

“WHY?!”

“So I can walk you to class.”

“I don’t think you need to do that.”

“Why?”

“I can be dropped off myself!” *HUFF*

“But I need to pay them money.”

“I don’t think you do, I can go myself.”

Finally I had everyone out and ready to walk in and he was okay with me walking him… :)

Last night I had asked him if he was ready for pre-school and would he be okay with me dropping him off at the door and his teacher walking him to class, he said, “Yea, and when I get taller *insert physical example of taller” I’m going to drive myself to pre-school and do whatever I want.”

I think I have a pre-teen already. Embarrassed to be seen with me? Check. Counting down days until his driver’s license? Check.

Hagen wasn’t happy to leave, but Warren? He was completely indifferent. He didn’t care if I stayed or went! I asked him to put his backpack in his cubby and he did it all by himself, of course.

We came home and Hagen got to play on the computer while Claire napped. I think he’s having a little trouble adjusting to Warren not being here. I’m sure he’ll like it eventually.

We went to get him and I peeked in his class and he was sitting at the table… listening!! AND NOT FIDGETING! I’m so proud of him! He told me all about how he got to paint a car and they talked about cars and houses and did some choo choo choo song. He met kids, but doesn’t remember their names. As we left he waved and said bye to his teacher, and remembered her name! :)

I think he’s going to do just fine :)

(80′s baby!)

I’m doing a best attempt at weight and height this week because her appointment isn’t until the 15th.

15.2 lbs
25 3/4 in (unlikely)

She….

Eats every 3 1/2 to 4 hours

Can roll over both ways like a pro

Doesn’t like to sit up and straightens her back out when you try

Would rather stand with assistance than be cradled

Wears size 3 diaper

Fits all of her 3-6 months clothes and some 6-12 months (but they are long)

Starting to grab things around her and brings them to her mouth for chewing

Takes her headbands off and chews on them

Takes her pacie out of her mouth and throws it OUT of her carseat… on PURPOSE.

Has moved to her own room.

Been going only 5 hours at night lately and I’m not sure what’s up (time to start food? NOOOOOooooo)

Will always look at her brothers over continuing to look at mommy.

Instantly smiles when she sees one of them.

Has two teeth nubs! Tiny sharp ones poking thru!

Found her feet! But is just too fat to get them to her mouth like her friend Anna does.

Officially she was 4 months on Saturday but I didn’t get her photos done until yesterday.

More photos later :)

I’ll be taking the kids up to my mom’s house for the day to let him work in peace.

Last night we had a good time with the boys letting them roast marshmallows over wood burning in our grill. What would that be called? An urban campfire? Those s’Mores were deeelicious.

Hagen spent most of his evening yelling at the moths…

I’ll start out talking about Hagen’s cast…

I was NOT happy when the doctor came in and said he wanted to cast it. I was really hoping the physician’s assistant would just pop it back and that be it. Yea, that’s right, the ER doctor didn’t pop it back, she LEFT it. I think she didn’t want to make him cry or she didn’t really know what she was doing. I started to get kind of mad thinking he’d have a cast for weeks, but it’s only for one. They routinely cast nursemaid elbow to let it get stronger so it doesn’t happen again.

We have to submerge his tiny little orange cast once a day, and since my accident the job now falls on daddy. As does loading dishes. I’m doing my best keeping up regular life but it’s kind of painful. Sometimes I’ll forget and pick something up… ouch.

I actually used the knife that maimed me! Well, I guess this is that, “guns don’t kill people” kind of situation. I’ve made peace with the knife. Though I am still angry aat my brain and right hand. I think my left hand might hold a grudge.

I was telling Travis how convenient it is that we all use our dominant hands for cutting. Hear me out! How awful would it be if someone said we should use knives in our non-dominant hands and then sliced the crap out of our useful digits? That would be totally awful.

I do sometimes feel pathetic though, when I look at Hagen’s injury in comparison to my own. He has immediately adapted to having an immobilized arm and I’m a big baby with a cut finger.

Oh well. I’m a big baby. So what?

I have five stiches, want to see? (If not don’t scroll down!)

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Yummy huh? Ya know how hard it is to get a good, close up, high res, clear photo with a big, heavy camera and flash at a good angle of the underside of your finder?? Hard. Five stitches. I knew it needed something because I could see fat and possible muscle (are there muscles in that part of the finger?) It was a big ‘ol flap of skin. She said there wasn’t any nerve damage that she could tell, and that the flap might not make it… but she just has to say that and she’s never NOT seen one make it.

I have to go back and get the stitches out later next week.

——

Guess who is 4 months old today? I’m going to try and photoshoot later…

Clean my house…

Take Hagen to get a thumbs up on his elbow…

Meet Warren’s pre-school teacher…

Cook wonderful meals…

Make some no-bake peanut butter tart…

Watch some more Dead like me…

…were all my things to do this week.

Below was NOT…

Sit with my tiny armed two year old as he has a cast put on….

Lay on my back in urgent care for two hours after slicing my left middle finger open on my freshly sharpened chef’s knife.

I mean seriously? I contemplated my mistake for most of the time I spent in urgent care, at one point getting the urge to pound a fist into a wall… What was I thinking? You don’t spear an avocado pit with a knife point. You just… don’t.

I was laying there, holding gauss to my finger wishing I could do tonight over.

I was making an all from scratch enchiladas recipe that I’ve wanted to try for months and since I left in a hurry Travis didn’t get it out of the oven (he was bathing the kids) and I didn’t even want to try it. I’m so… there isn’t even a word that’s coming to mind right now. Just …. sucks.

At least my brother came and saved me, well saved me and my husband both from dragging three kids to sit in an urgent care.

I just want to cry right now, and my finger doesn’t hurt THAT bad.

Food is like my abusive boyfriend, it puts me on one hell of an emotional roller coaster.
