Potty training – Day 5
Written by amanda on January 21, 2010 – 3:39 pm -So today he woke up dry and has been accident free, even while wearing a pull-up and going to a tour of preschool AND a friend’s house. He went potty at the friend’s house too!! First day was rough, a lot of fighting, dragging, bribing, and time-outs for fits. Monday was better, less accidents but more crying that he didn’t want to do it. So I started the potty chart on Monday which helped a little bit, but he still refused to poop on the potty. Tuesday he still hadn’t pooped but had finally taken responsibility for going and told me when he needed to take a potty break. He would yell he “has to go pee pee” and then he’d run upstairs and tell me he had to “do it myself” and would shut the door on me. THEN to my surprise he pooped on the potty! Without my asking! Later in the day he has small half accidents… he’d poop a tiny bit and then run to the potty. Then yesterday he had been up since 6am and hadn’t had a nap, so it was great to have an accident free day but I understood when he just gave up around 7pm and had two or three accidents. He was so tired. He did sleep until 7:45 this morning and was dry today and yesterday morning. Went straight to the potty. I hope we don’t have any major relapses. It seems like he finally is taking responsibility for it, I knew he could do it, it was just a matter of making him. He’s a stubborn kid.
Here’s my potty chart. He has to pee pee 7 times to get his treat for the day (candy). And he only has to poop once to get his special toy. He’s a 3 times a day pooper so I don’t expect that to be too hard unless he’s holding it. I hope I don’t have to do the chart for more than another week or two before he just has it and doesn’t need it.
