Wow.
Written by amanda on January 14, 2010 – 8:04 am -Tuesday was absolutely amazing!
First it didn’t start off so well with Warren waking early(5:30) (even though I left him and he did go back to sleep), then we got up and had an AWFUL breakfast of cereal and milk, neither would touch a banana. I had some time before we were going out so I let them go naked and sit on their new IKEA potty chairs (pictured below) (which I didn’t know existed until I read 4tunate’s 2010 resolution!).
I then just sat and let them get up and down and talked to them about going potty like big boys. Hagen will sit forever on the potty and talk about “pee pee” and “poo poo” on the “potty”. Warren KNOWS what to do, but he just doesn’t feel like its a better to go in a potty rather than whenever he wants to in a diaper ( I think anyway). BUT the peer pressure/jealousy/competition got the best of him and he wanted to make sure he “produced” some “results” of sitting on the potty! He went pee pee and then we put a pull up on him. I started to get them ready to go and asked who needed to use the potty, both of them screamed “potty!”. I sat up there with them for a while and Warren did both! BOTH! I told him for going poop like a big boy he got a treat (starburst). I’m thinking its the best way since #1 is easy for him, he’s been able to do that when he wants to since he was 2, and he’s a sugar-holic!
After all that, I got them ready and out the door we went!
We got to story time and they did great! We haven’t been since they were 2 and 6 months (about a year!). I was expecting more from Warren but considering he isn’t ever made to sit for a long period of time he did wonderful. Hagen did so well, I was amazed! He sat and did the hand motions, he pointed and repeated words, it was adorable. They’re favorite time, of course, was getting to jump around and dance to a song (something about shaking the sillys out I think). They got to glue bears on paper and color them which they did for all of 5 minutes then went back to the stereo to dance more, LOL.
We went out to eat at McDonald’s with friends and they actually PLAYED on the CLIMBER instead of trying to run off or whining! I got to sit and talk, with adults! (And Warren rode with Ms. Cara and Nate to McDonald’s and apparently he doesn’t like my housekeeping abilities. He told Ms. Cara: “That’s my mommy’s van, she needs to clean our house.” LOL )
I knew I was pushing my luck, but we also made it through a grocery shopping trip without meltdowns! We all made it home happy and awake… Hagen went down for a nap, Warren laid down to watch Transformers and within a half hour both were asleep!
I’m so lucky I need to buy a lottery ticket!
