Are you barking up?

I have no idea where he got this or what it means, but its funny…

He was saying that ‘barking up’ meant, “DOOO DOOO DOOOOOOOO!” but for some reason he decided to insert his ‘big word’ into the conversation. :) I have a goofy child.
